Ingredients/Components

  • butter, softened - 1 c
  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 4 item
  • vanilla - 2 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 3 c
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • water - 1/4 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking powder - 1/2 tsp
  • rum flavoring - 1 tsp

How to make kentucky butter cake:

Butter Sauce Topping:1 c. sugar1/2 c. butter1/4 c. water1 tsp. rum flavoring Preheat oven to 325°. Sift together in large bowl and set aside flour, soda, salt and baking powder. In separate large bowl, cream butter and sugar together. Add 4 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each egg. Combine 1 cup buttermilk and vanilla. Add this to creamed mixture. Gradually add creamed ingredients to dry ingredients alternately, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Bake 50 to 60 minutes.

Butter Sauce: Combine sugar, 1/4 cup water and 1/2 cup butter in saucepan. Heat until butter melts. Add 1 teaspoon rum flavoring. Prick cake with fork. Pour sauce over cake. Sprinkle with powdered sugar when cool.
