Irish soda bread
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- butter - 2 Tbsp
- eggs, beaten - 2 item
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- sifted all-purpose flour - 4 c
- caraway seed - 2 Tbsp
- seeded raisins - 1/2 c
- sour milk approximately - 2/3 c
How to make irish soda bread:
Sift, measure and sift flour again. Add soda, salt and sugar; sift again. Add caraway seed. Melt butter. Add beaten eggs and enough sour milk to obtain 1 1/4 cups liquid. Quickly combine wet and dry ingredients. Put on floured board. Knead with tips of fingers lightly for 1 minute. Put in greased heavy iron or other heavy baking dish. Set in preheated 375° oven. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve hot with plenty of butter.Recipe categories: Breads, Quick breads, Irish.
