Ingredients/Components

  • half and half - 1 c
  • flour - 1 Tbsp
  • stick butter - 1/2 item
  • salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
  • onion, chopped - 1 tsp
  • can water chestnuts - 1 item
  • almonds, slivered - 1 pkg
  • small can mushroom pieces - 1 item
  • frozen French-cut green beans - 2 pkg
  • sharp American cheese - 1/4 lb

How to make green bean casserole:

Cook green beans until limp. Place in buttered flat casserole. Next, melt butter in skillet; add onion and simmer until transparent. Add flour; mix together and set to cool. In top of double boiler, melt cheese in half and half. Add mushroom pieces and drained chopped water chestnuts. Add the butter onion mixtures; pour over green beans. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake at 375° for 25 to 35 minutes.
