Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • flour - 3 c
  • boiling water - 1 c
  • shortening - 1 c
  • molasses - 1 c
  • ginger - 1/2 tsp
  • cloves - 1 tsp
  • eggs, well beaten - 2 item

How to make ginger cakes:

Cream shortening; add sugar, then molasses. Finally, add the boiling water. Add sifted dry ingredients, stirring all well after each addition. Add the well beaten eggs. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes. (This recipe is over 150 years old. Given by Mrs. Reaford McCarter.)
