  • sugar - 2 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped pecans - 1 c
  • butter or margarine - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • evaporated milk
  • egg yolks - 3 item
  • coconut
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • boiling water - 1/2 c
  • sifted cake flour
  • egg whites, stiffly beaten - 4 item
  • egg yolks unbeaten - 4 item

How to make german sweet chocolate cake:

Coconut Pecan Frosting:1 c. evaporated milk1 c. sugar3 egg yolks1/2 c. butter or margarine1 tsp. vanilla1 1/3 c. coconut1 c. chopped pecans Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream the butter or margarine and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time, and beat well after each. Add melted chocolate and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together the flour, salt and soda. Add alternately with buttermilk in chocolate mixture. Beat well. Beat until smooth. Fold in egg whites. Pour into 3 deep 8 or 9-inch layer pans, lined with paper. Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool; frost tops only with Coconut Pecan Frosting.

Coconut Pecan Frosting: Combine all ingredients, except coconut and pecans. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened, about 12 minutes. Add coconut and pecans. Beat until thick enough to spread. Makes 2 1/2 cups.
