Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • egg yolks - 4 item
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • boiling water - 1/2 c
  • egg whites - 4 item
  • margarine - 1 c
  • sour milk or buttermilk - 1 c

How to make german chocolate cake:

Melt chocolate in boiling water; cool. Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Cream margarine and sugar. Add egg yolks; beat thoroughly. Blend in vanilla and chocolate mixture. To dry ingredients, add alternately the chocolate mixture and buttermilk, beating after each addition. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into a greased tube pan. Bake at 350° for 60 minutes. Let cool in pan 15 minutes.
