Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • eggs - 3 item
  • milk - 2 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • all-purpose flour - 3 4
  • vegetable oil for cooking - 1 item

How to make funnel cake:

Beat eggs. Add milk and sugar. Sift half the flour, salt and baking powder together. Add to egg and sugar mixture. Beat with beater or food processor until smooth. Add only as much remaining flour to make a batter thin enough to run through funnel.

Heat oil to 375° in an 8 or 9-inch, 3/4-inch deep, iron skillet. Pour about 1/4 cup batter into funnel at a time, holding finger over bottom until ready to drizzle into oil. Swirl or crisscross batter in a lace like fashion.

Let cake brown on one side (takes a minute or less), then turn and brown the other side. Lift from oil to a plate and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Makes 6 to 8 cakes.

Batter can be made and stored in refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
