Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 3/4 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- butter - 1/2 c
- oil - 3/4 c
- cocoa - 1 tsp
- confectioners sugar - 1 lb
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- all-purpose flour - 2 c
- white vinegar - 1 tsp
- red food color - 1 oz
- In other bowl, cream oil and 1 1/2 cups sugar
How to make red velvet cake:
Sift flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa in bowl. In other bowl, cream oil and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Beat well after each egg. Add food color. Mix well. In 3rd bowl, combine buttermilk and soda; mix well. Add to oil/sugar mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Add vinegar and vanilla; mix well. Spoon into greased and floured pans (8 or 9-inch). Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.Combine milk and remaining sugar in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Spoon evenly over each baked hot cake layer. Cool cake and frost.Red Velvet Cake Icing:1 (8 oz.) cream cheese1/2 c. butter1 tsp. vanilla1 lb. confectioners sugar Mix cream cheese, butter and vanilla in bowl. Beat until smooth. Gradually add sugar while beating mixture. Spread between layers. Frost sides and top of cake.
