  • beef stewing meat - 2 lbs
  • medium onions, cut in eighths - 2 item
  • stalks celery, chunked - 3 item
  • carrots, quartered - 4 item
  • tomato or V-8 juice - 1 c
  • tapioca - 1/3 c
  • sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • basil - 1/2 tsp
  • medium potatoes sliced 1/4-inch thick - 2 item

How to make french oven beef stew:

Combine beef, onion, celery and carrots in a 4-quart casserole. In a small bowl, combine tomato or V-8 juice, tapioca, sugar, pepper and basil. Pour over meat and veggies. Cover; bake in a preheated 300° oven for about 2 1/2 hours. Add potatoes. Cover. Cook 1 hour longer. Stir occasionally during last hour. Serves 6.
