Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • butter - 1 item
  • medium onion - 1 item
  • cans evaporated milk - 2 item
  • cubed potatoes - 2 c
  • salt pork
  • haddock or other fish - 1 lb
  • sherry or white wine optional - 1 item
  • butter, salt and pepper to taste add with evaporated milk - 1 item

How to make fish chowder:

Simmer haddock in 1 cup water until cooked. Remove from pan. Add potatoes to water (you may need more water). Simmer until cooked, but not overdone.

Meanwhile, fry bacon salt pork (diced). Add onion and cook until transparent. Add these to potatoes. Return fish to saucepan with other ingredients. Pour in evaporated milk and wine. Simmer and warm. Serve with salad and corn bread.
