Ingredients/Components

  • flour
  • sugar
  • dates, pitted and cut up - 1 c
  • walnuts or pecans, chopped - 1 c
  • baking powder
  • pinch of salt - 1 item
  • milk - 3/4 c
  • Pour over this the topping shown below
  • brown sugar - 2 c
  • butter - 2 Tbsp

How to make date pudding:

Combine all ingredients and pour into greased 9 1/2 x 13 1/2 x 2 1/2-inch pan. Pour over this the topping shown below. Then bake 1 hour at 350°.Topping:1 3/4 c. water2 c. brown sugar2 Tbsp. butter Heat water and melt butter and brown sugar in it. Pour over batter. As the cake cooks, the topping goes through to settle on the bottom of the pan. This should be made at least a day ahead of serving. Can be frozen. Will serve 24. Can be served with whipped cream or ice cream, but is very good without either. Makes a good card game dessert.
