Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- soda - 2 tsp
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- boiling water
- egg - 1 item
- nutmeats - 3/4 c
- dates, cut fine - 2 c
How to make date nut bread:
Pour hot water over dates; let stand. Add butter to hot mixture. Cream sugar, egg and vanilla together; add dates and nutmeats to mixture. Last, add flour, salt, soda and baking powder, all sifted together. Mix and bake in slow oven at 300° for 1 hour. Bake in well-greased baking pans or cans. Fill cans only halfway full.Note: For 1 pound of dates, use 1 1/2 of recipe. Makes 6 (1 pound) cans or 2 loaves.
