Crisp sweet pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/2 c
- vinegar - 3 c
- celery seed
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric - 2 tsp
- crushed ice - 1 item
- medium onions, thinly sliced - 6 item
- thinly sliced cucumbers - 5 qt
- cloves garlic, split - 3 item
How to make crisp sweet pickles:
Place cucumbers, onions and garlic cloves in a large pan; add salt. Cover with crushed ice and mix thoroughly; let stand for 3 hours. Drain thoroughly. Combine sugar, turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed and vinegar in large kettle. Bring just to a boil. Add cucumbers and onions. Bring just to a boil; heat through.
