Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/2 c
- vinegar
- celery seed - 3 Tbsp
- medium onions - 1 doz
- mustard seed - 4 Tbsp
- turmeric - 1 Tbsp
- cabbage, chopped - 4 qt
- sweet green peppers - 1 doz
- ground mustard - 4 Tbsp
- sweet red peppers - 1 doz
- green tomatoes, chopped - 2 qt
- ginger ground - 1 Tbsp
- pickling spices tied in a bag - 1 item
- whole mix - 2 Tbsp
How to make chow chow:
Chop onions and peppers fine. Combine all vegetables and mix with salt. Let stand overnight; drain well. Combine sugar, spices and vinegar. Bring to boiling point and simmer about 20 minutes. Add other ingredients and simmer to consistency desired. Remove spice bag; pack into hot jars and seal.Hint: Serve with meat and fresh vegetables.
