Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3/4 c
- salt - 1/4 c
- water - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 c
- ginger - 1/2 tsp
- celery seed - 1/2 tsp
- medium onions - 3 item
- medium cucumbers - 5 item
- mustard seed - 1/2 tsp
- green peppers - 2 item
- turmeric - 1/2 tsp
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Wash cucumbers. Cut in thin slices. Peel and slice onions and green peppers. Combine onions, cucumbers and peppers. Add salt. Let stand two hours. Drain.Heat vinegar, water, celery seed, mustard seed, sugar, ginger and turmeric to boiling. Add cucumbers and onions. Boil slowly until tender. Pack, while hot, in sterilized jars. Makes 3 pints.
