  • eggs - 2 item
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • baking powder
  • shortening - 2 Tbsp
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • sweet milk - 1 item
  • whole fryer - 1 item

How to make chicken 'n dumplings:

Boil fryer until tender. Remove from broth and set aside to cool. Mix dry ingredients. Cut in shortening. Add beaten eggs and enough milk to make a stiff dough. Roll out really thin on heavily floured board. Cut into pieces (pizza cutter works great!). Drop into rapidly boiling broth. Cover and simmer on very low heat for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove skin and bones from chicken and pull into bite size pieces. Add chicken to pot and season to taste with black pepper. I pour about a cup of sweet milk in pot just as it's finished cooking.
