Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 Tbsp
- salt - 1/8 tsp
- flour
- butter - 6 Tbsp
- cornstarch - 3 Tbsp
- water - 2 Tbsp
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 6 Tbsp
- dash of salt - 1 item
- cream of tartar - 1/4 tsp
- cherry juice - 3/4 1
- Add egg and water
- Add filling to unbaked crust
How to make cherry torte:
Mix the first 6 ingredients. Add egg and water. Work mixture with hands into torte pan (can also use spring-form cake pan).Filling:1 qt. cherries3/4 to 1 c. cherry juice1 c. sugar3 Tbsp. cornstarch Cook ingredients gently in saucepan until thickened. Add filling to unbaked crust. Bake at 425° for 25 minutes. While torte is baking, prepare meringue.Meringue Topping:3 egg whites1/4 tsp. cream of tartar dash of salt ??? Tbsp. sugar Beat egg whites with cream of tartar and dash of salt until foamy. Add sugar (2 tablespoons at a time) and beat until whites peak. Place on top of baked torte. Return to oven at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes. May add pecans or walnut pieces to top of meringue before baking.Recipe categories: Desserts, American, Californian.
