Ingredients/Components

  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • dash of salt - 1 item
  • light corn syrup - 1 c
  • can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk - 1 oz
  • oleo or butter - 1 c
  • 2 1/4 c - 1 lb

How to make caramels:

Melt butter. Add brown sugar and salt; stir until mixed. Slowly add milk, stirring constantly. Cook and stir over medium heat until candy reaches 245° (about 12 to 15 minutes). Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Pour into buttered 9 x 13-inch pan. Cool and cut. Wrap in wax paper.

May also be used to dip apples.
