Caramel bread pudding
Ingredients/Components
- eggs - 6 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- butter or margarine - 2 Tbsp
- salt - 1/8 tsp
- water - 1/3 c
- Pet evaporated milk
- firmly packed brown sugar, divided
- slices white bread, cut in 1/2 inch cubes - 6 item
How to make caramel bread pudding:
Preheat oven to 325°. Butter a shallow 1 1/2-quart casserole dish. Dot bottom with remaining butter. Sprinkle 1 cup sugar over bottom. Top with bread cubes. Beat eggs with wire whisk. Stir in remaining 1/2 cup sugar, evaporated milk, water, vanilla and salt. Pour over bread cubes. Do not stir. Place casserole in larger pan. Pour hot water into pan one inch deep. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted one inch from edge comes out clean. Serve warm or cold. Makes 6 to 8 servings.Recipe categories: Desserts, Puddings and mousses, American.
