Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- buttermilk - 1/3 c
- baking powder
- baking soda - 1/8 tsp
- shortening - 3 Tbsp
- sifted all-purpose flour - 1 c
How to make buttermilk biscuits:
Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda into bowl. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make well in center; add buttermilk, all at once. Stir quickly with fork just until dough follows fork around the bowl.Turn into lightly floured surface. Knead gently 10 to 12 strokes. Roll dough 1/2 inch thick. Dip cutter in flour; cut dough straight down. Don't twist. Bake at 450° until golden brown (10 to 12 minutes).
