Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- soda - 2 tsp
- buttermilk - 2 c
- molasses - 1 c
- raisins - 1 c
- hot water
- whole wheat flour - 3 c
- corn meal - 1 c
How to make brown bread:
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl; add molasses and buttermilk, mixing well. Stir in raisins.Spoon batter into a greased 2 pound coffee can. Cover with aluminum foil. Place can in a slow cooker; pour hot water around can and place lid on cooker. Cook on high heat for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until bread tests done.
Remove can from slow cooker and let stand 5 to 10 minutes. Turn bread out onto cooling rack. Serve warm with butter or cream cheese.
