Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/3 c
- cider vinegar - 3 c
- celery seed
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- sliced medium cucumbers - 4 qts
- green peppers chopped - 2 item
- tumeric
- white onions sliced can use 4 small - 6 med
- cloves garlic can omit - 3 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Wash cucumbers and then slice. Add onions, peppers and whole garlic cloves. Add salt, cover with cracked ice and water. Let stand at least 3 hours. Drain and rinse thoroughly. Combine remaining ingredients, pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to a boil. Seal in hot sterilized jars. Makes 8 pints.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
