Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sliced cucumbers - 4 qt
- medium white onions, sliced - 6 item
- green peppers, chopped - 2 item
- buds garlic, whole and unwrapped - 3 item
- salt - 1/3 c
- sugar - 5 c
- turmeric
- celery seed
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- vinegar - 3 c
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Do not peel cucumbers. Slice thin. Add onions, peppers and whole garlic buds (do not separate cloves). Add salt. Cover with cracked ice. Mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours. Drain thoroughly. Combine remaining ingredients. Pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to boiling. Seal in hot sterilized jars. Makes 4 quarts.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
