  • sugar - 5 c
  • salt - 1/2 c
  • vinegar - 5 c
  • celery seed - 2 Tbsp
  • mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
  • cucumbers - 24 c
  • onions Vidalia - 4 c

How to make bread and butter pickles:

Combine cucumbers, onions and salt; pack in ice for 3 hours. Boil vinegar, celery seed, mustard seed and sugar. Get the mixture hot enough to melt sugar. Put cucumbers mixture in. Wait until pickles turn dark, like pickles in a jar do. Put in jar.
