Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/2 c
- vinegar - 5 c
- ground cloves - 1/2 tsp
- celery seed - 1 tsp
- small onions - 8 item
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric - 1/2 tsp
- cucumbers - 1 gal
- green peppers, sliced paper thin optional - 2 item
- fresh water to cover - 1 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Soak cucumbers, onions and peppers in salt water for 3 hours. Drain well. Heat vinegar and sugar. Add spices and mustard and celery seed. Add cucumbers (etc.) and boil 10 minutes. Hot pack in quarts or pints. Seal.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
