Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- cider vinegar - 3 c
- cloves garlic - 3 item
- celery seed
- medium onions, sliced - 6 item
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric
- green peppers, chopped - 2 item
- sliced cucumbers - 4 qt
- coarse-medium salt - 1/3 c
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Slice cucumbers thin. Add onions, peppers and whole garlic cloves. Sprinkle salt over mixture and cover with crushed ice. Mix thoroughly and let stand 3 hours; drain well.Combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to boiling point and seal in hot sterilized jars. Yields approximately 8 pints.
