Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/4 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- buttermilk
- baking powder
- baking soda
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- seedless raisins - 1/2 c
- dark molasses - 3/4 c
- whole wheat flour
- yellow cornmeal - 3/4 c
How to make boston brown bread:
Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. Beat in remaining ingredients. Spoon into 2 well-greased 1 quart molds, filling a little more than half full. Cover with foil. Set molds on rack in deep kettle and add boiling water to come halfway up sides of molds. Cover and steam for 2 1/2 hours.
