  • granulated sugar - 2/3 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/4 tsp
  • shortening - 1/3 c
  • eggs, well beaten - 2 item
  • mashed ripe bananas 2 to 3 bananas - 1 c
  • chopped walnuts optional or 1 c - 1/2 c

How to make banana tea bread:

Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt and set aside. Work shortening with a spoon until fluffy and creamy, then add sugar gradually while continuing to work with a spoon until light. Add eggs and beat well. Add flour mixture alternately with the bananas, a small amount at a time, beating smooth after each addition. Turn into a greased or oiled loaf pan, 9 x 5 x 3-inch. Bake at 350° for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until done (toothpick test).
