Banana bars
Ingredients/Components
- vanilla - 1/2 tsp
- packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
- butter or margarine - 1/4 c
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour - 1 c
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- lemon juice - 1 tsp
- mashed banana 1 large or 1 1/2 medium - 1/2 c
- apricot jam orange marmalade will do too - 1/3 c
- chopped walnuts can use almonds - 1/4 c
- strained apricot jam or marmalade - 1/4 c
- crushed walnuts or almonds - 1/4 c
How to make banana bars:
Cream butter with sugar. Add egg and vanilla and beat until fluffy. Stir in banana and jam. Measure in flour, baking powder, salt, nuts and lemon juice. Spread into a greased 9 x 9-inch pan. Bake in 350° oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from oven. Spread with strained jam. Sprinkle the crushed nuts over.
