  • sugar - 1 c
  • cinnamon - 2 tsp
  • eggs - 2 item
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • nutmeg - 1 tsp
  • soda - 2 tsp
  • vinegar - 3 Tbsp
  • shortening - 3/4 c
  • chopped nuts optional - 1 c
  • cloves - 1 tsp
  • applesauce - 1 to
  • raisins, plumped in boiling water optional - 1 c

How to make applesauce cake:

Cream shortening and sugars until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with applesauce and vinegar. Fold in nuts and raisins.

Pour batter into greased 9-inch angel food cake pan, or 2 (8-inch) square pans or 2 small loaf pans. Bake until firm, 1 to 1 1/4 hours at 325°. When cold, remove from pan. Add a strip of wax paper when using a greased loaf pan. Keep in cool place, wrapped in foil.
