Applesauce cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- cinnamon - 2 tsp
- eggs - 2 item
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- brown sugar - 1 c
- nutmeg - 1 tsp
- soda - 2 tsp
- vinegar - 3 Tbsp
- shortening - 3/4 c
- chopped nuts optional - 1 c
- cloves - 1 tsp
- applesauce - 1 to
- raisins, plumped in boiling water optional - 1 c
How to make applesauce cake:
Cream shortening and sugars until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with applesauce and vinegar. Fold in nuts and raisins.Pour batter into greased 9-inch angel food cake pan, or 2 (8-inch) square pans or 2 small loaf pans. Bake until firm, 1 to 1 1/4 hours at 325°. When cold, remove from pan. Add a strip of wax paper when using a greased loaf pan. Keep in cool place, wrapped in foil.
