Applesauce cake
Ingredients/Components
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 1/2 c
- raisins - 1/2 c
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- cake flour
- unsweetened applesauce - 1 c
- sugar brown sugar is better - 1 c
How to make applesauce cake:
Sift flour; measure and resift 3 times with soda, spices and salt. Cream shortening with sugar. Add the beaten egg, then the applesauce. Add dry flour mixture, beating with each addition. Stir in raisins. Pour into 8-inch square cake pan lined with wax paper on the bottom. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes, or bake in muffin cups for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool before serving.Applesauce cake improves with age, if kept in a bread box. Good served with whipped cream or topping.
