Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 2 c
  • baking powder - 3 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • unsifted flour - 5 c
  • warm water - 2 Tbsp
  • dry yeast - 1 pkg

How to make angel biscuits:

Dissolve yeast in water. Sift flour along with dry ingredients. Add shortening and cut in with a knife or pastry cutter. Add yeast to buttermilk and mix thoroughly.

Combine liquid and dry ingredients. Roll dough as for biscuits, cut to desired size and bake for 10 minutes in a 450° oven. Unused dough may be covered and kept in refrigerator.
