Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 5 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 2 c
  • baking powder - 3 tsp
  • warm water - 4 Tbsp
  • Crisco shortening - 3/4 c
  • dry yeast

How to make angel biscuits:

Sift dry ingredients and cut in Crisco until it looks like coarse meal. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to dry ingredients gently. Pour in buttermilk and work to a nice dough. Roll out about 1/4 inch on a floured board and cut with biscuit cutters. Dip in melted butter and place in pans, arranging biscuits as Parker House rolls. Freeze and bake directly from the freezer at 400° for 15 minutes. (Need not rise.)
