Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • hot water - 2 c
  • garlic powder - 1/8 tsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • chopped onion - 3/4 c
  • chopped celery - 3/4 c
  • dried thyme - 1/8 tsp
  • chives - 1/4 tsp
  • bay leaf, crumbled - 1/2 tsp
  • dried sweet basil - 1/8 tsp
  • can tomatoes undrained - 1 oz
  • carrots, thinly sliced - 2 item
  • diced potato - 3/4 c
  • diced turnip - 1/2 c
  • very lean ground beef - 1/2 lb

How to make vegetable beef soup:

Brown ground beef and onion in a large saucepan. Drain off fat. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Yield: 4 servings.
