Ingredients/Components
- salt - 2 tsp
- flour - 1/3 c
- shortening - 3 Tbsp
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- medium onion, sliced - 1 item
- steak 1-inch - 2 lb
- cooked canned tomatoes - 1 c
How to make swiss steak:
Combine and pound the flour, salt and pepper into the steak. Brown slowly in shortening in a heavy skillet. Pour tomatoes over meat. Top with sliced onion. Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Cover and bake about 1 hour, until steak is fork-tender. Makes 6 servings.This can also be cooked on top of the range or in an electric skillet.
