Swiss steak
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 3 Tbsp
- vegetable shortening - 2 Tbsp
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tsp
- chili powder - 1/2 tsp
- onion, sliced - 1 item
- can tomatoes - 1 oz
- stalk celery, sliced - 1 item
- green pepper, sliced - 1 item
- round steak
How to make swiss steak:
Cut meat into serving sizes (about 6). Combine flour, salt, pepper and chili powder. Pound 2 tablespoons of mixture into meat. Heat shortening in a skillet; brown meat on both sides. Drain excess fat from skillet. Add undrained tomatoes, onion, celery, carrot, pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Cover and simmer for 1 hour or until tender. Remove meat; place on a platter. Skim excess fat off sauce. Combine 1/4 cup of water with remaining flour mixture and stir into sauce. Serve with rice or noodles.Recipe categories: American, Main dish, North american.
