  • sugar - 6 c
  • salt - 2 c
  • water - 1 gal
  • vinegar - 1 pt
  • allspice - 2 Tbsp
  • alum - 4 5
  • cut up cucumbers - 2 gal

How to make sweet pickles:

Add two cups salt to 1 gallon of water. Bring to a boil. Pour over cucumbers. Let stand for 7 days. Rinse well. Pour clear boiling water over cucumbers. Let stand for 1 day; drain. Pour boiling alum water over cucumbers. Use four or five tablespoo
