Sweet pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 8 c
- salt - 1 Tbsp
- water - 2 c
- vinegar - 7 c
- celery seed - 1 Tbsp
- cucumbers, sliced - 1 gal
- pickling spices - 2 Tbsp
- lime - 2 c
How to make sweet pickles:
Mix lime in 1 gal. of water and soak cucumbers overnight using crockery or enamel ware. (Do not use aluminum containers.) Drain and wash cucumbers; soak in ice water 2 or 3 hours. Mix together sugar, vinegar, water, salt and heat. Place pickling spices and celery seed in a bag made of cheese cloth. Add cucumbers and bagged spices. Cook 40-45 minutes. Remove spice bag and put in clean sterile jars. Seal in jars while still hot.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
