Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- milk
- salt - 3 tsp
- water
- eggs, beaten - 3 item
- shortening - 3/4 c
- all-purpose flour - 18 c
- dry yeast - 3 pkg
How to make sweet bread:
Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup of warm water; set aside. Heat until warm the milk and 2 1/2 cups of water (5 cups of liquid). Add milk and water to shortening, sugar, salt and beaten eggs. Measure and add to liquid the flour 3 cups at a time. Grease hands; knead well. Let rise for 2 hours or until doubled in bulk. Knead again and put dough in greased pans. Let rise again. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes, then lower heat to 350° for 35 minutes. Makes 6 to 8 pan loaves.Recipe categories: Breads, Yeast breads, Portuguese.
