Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- milk - 1 c
- salt
- flour - 5 6
- warm water - 1 cake,
- lemon extract - 1/2 tsp
- powdered mace - 1/2 tsp
- shortening preferably butter - 1/2 c
- beaten eggs 5 if small - 4 item
How to make sweet bread:
Dissolve butter, sugar and salt in 1 cup of hot milk. Cool to lukewarm. Combine with other ingredients. Set this sponge in warm place, free of drafts, overnight. Cut down in morning and shape into 2 loaves. Place dough in greased loaf pans and let rise about 1 hour. Bake in moderate 350° oven for 50 to 60 minutes. Cool 5 minutes, then turn out on rack.
