  • sugar - 2/3 c
  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • milk
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour - 6 to
  • eggs, beaten - 2 item
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • warm water - 1/2 c
  • mashed potatoes - 1/2 c
  • dry yeast - 1 pkg

How to make spudnuts:

Scald milk. Add shortening, sugar, potatoes and water. Cool until lukewarm. Add yeast. Mix well. Add eggs and vanilla. Add salt and baking powder to flour and add to egg mixture. Mix well. Knead 5 to 7 minutes. Place in greased container. Brush the top of dough with melted butter. Cover and let rise until double in bulk (about 1 hour). Punch down; roll out to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut out donuts. Place on wax paper or greased cookie sheet. Let rise until double in bulk, about 1/2 hour. Fry in deep well at 375°.
