How to make sweet and sour chicken:
First Layer: 9 slices bread with crusts cut off.Second Layer: 5 cups cooked chicken, cubed.
Third Layer: 1 can (4 ounces) mushrooms, drained.
Fourth Layer: 2 cans water chestnuts, drained and dried.
Fifth Layer: 1/2 cup mayonnaise.
Sixth Layer: 9 slices Cheddar cheese.
Seventh Layer: 4 eggs beaten and mixed with 2 cups milk and 1 teaspoon salt.
Eighth Layer: 1 can cream of chicken soup, undiluted.
Ninth Layer: 1 can cream of celery soup.
Cover with foil. Place in refrigerator 24 hours. Bake at 350°. Remove foil and bake 1 1/2 hours. Last 15 minutes, sprinkle buttered crumbs (coarse or cubed made from trimmed crusts of bread) over top. Continue to bake until nicely browned.
