  • vanilla extract - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • water - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • margarine, softened - 1/2 c
  • powdered sugar - 1 item
  • sifted powdered sugar - 1 c
  • ground almonds

How to make swedish heirloom cookies:

Cream the shortening and margarine at medium speed of electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and salt. Mix well. Stir in flour. Add water, vanilla and almonds, stirring well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheets and flatten. Bake at 325° for 12 to 15 minutes or until done. Dredge warm cookies in powdered sugar, if you prefer. Yields 4 dozen.
