Ingredients/Components

  • butter, softened - 1/2 c
  • vanilla - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • water - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • powdered sugar - 1 c
  • ground almonds *

How to make swedish heirloom cookies:

Cream shortening and butter until light and fluffy; add 1 cup powdered sugar and salt and cream well. Blend in flour. Add water and vanilla and mix well. Stir in almonds. Shape into 1-inch balls and slightly flatten. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 325° for 12 to 15 minutes or until done. Roll in powdered sugar while still warm.

*You may use pecans instead of almonds and use almond flavoring instead of vanilla. You may add 1 cup of miniature chocolate chips and color the dough red or green for Christmas.
