Ingredients/Components

  • vanilla - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • water - 1 Tbsp
  • powdered sugar - 1 c
  • butter or margarine, softened - 1/2 c
  • Crisco - 1/2 c
  • ground or finely chopped almonds or pecans

How to make swedish heirloom cookies:

Cream shortening and butter until light and fluffy. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and salt and cream well. Blend in flour. Add water and vanilla; mix well. Stir in pecans. Shape into 1-inch balls and slightly flatten. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 325° for 12 to 15 minutes, until done. Roll in powdered sugar while still warm. Makes 8 dozen.

In Sweden, almonds are used.
