Spicy hush puppies
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder - 1/8 tsp
- vegetable oil - 1/2 c
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- garlic powder - 1/8 tsp
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- chopped green pepper - 1/4 c
- small onion, chopped - 1 item
- crushed red pepper - 1/4 tsp
- flour self-rising - 1/2 c
- cornmeal self-rising - 1 c
- can whole tomatoes, drained and chopped - 1 item
How to make spicy hush puppies:
Combine all ingredients until dry ingredients are moistened. Drop batter by tablespoonfuls into deep, hot oil, fry only a few at a time, turning once, 3 to 5 minutes or until hush puppies are golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Yields about 1 1/2 dozen.Recipe categories: Breads, Grains, Side dish.
