Sloppy joes
Ingredients/Components
- water - 1/2 c
- cider vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- packed light brown sugar - 2 tsp
- chopped onion - 1/2 c
- cloves garlic, minced - 2 item
- prepared mustard - 2 Tbsp
- salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
- hamburger buns, toasted - 4 item
- finely chopped red or green bell pepper - 1/2 c
- ground beef eye of round steak or 95% lean ground beef - 1 lb
- reduced sodium ketchup - 1 c
How to make sloppy joes:
Cook ground beef, onion, celery, bell pepper and garlic in medium skillet over medium heat until beef is browned and vegetables tender (about 10 minutes). Stir in ketchup, water, mustard, vinegar and brown sugar; heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered until mixture is thickened (about 5 minutes). Season to taste with salt and pepper.
