Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • half and half
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 4 c
  • butter - 2/3 c
  • baking powder - 4 tsp
  • large egg - 1 item
  • cream of tartar - 1/2 tsp
  • golden raisins optional - 1/4 c

How to make scones:

Heat oven to 425°. Grease large baking sheet. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar; blend with pastry cutter. Beat half and half and egg; reserve 2 tablespoons. Add to dry ingredients. Form soft dough. Knead 4 or 6 times and divide in half. Roll half into 8-inch round and cut into 4 wedges. Do second half. Pierce tops of scones with fork. Brush with reserved egg mix. Bake 15 to 18 minutes.
