  • cream cheese - 8 oz
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped pecans - 1 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • vanilla flavoring - 1 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 1 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • cooking oil - 2 c
  • plain flour
  • stick margarine or butter - 1 item
  • bottle red food coloring - 1 oz
  • Bake on a 1-inch deep baking sheet

How to make red velvet cake:

Mix all ingredients together with mixer on medium for 3 minutes. Bake on a 1-inch deep baking sheet. Line sheet with wax paper and butter to avoid sticking. Bake at 325° for 25 minutes. Cool completely and slice into 4 equal layers; stack. Ice between layers and top but not on sides of cake.Cream Cheese Icing:1 box powdered sugar8 oz. cream cheese1 stick margarine or butter1 tsp. vanilla1 c. chopped pecans Mix all ingredients together.
