Ingredients/Components
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- cocoa - 3 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- buttermilk - 1 c
- cake flour, sifted 3 times
- salt
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- Set aside
- milk - 1 c
- butter - 1/2 c
- powdered sugar - 3 Tbsp
How to make red velvet cake:
Mix food coloring with the cocoa. Set aside. Cream shortening and sugar. Add the eggs to the cocoa mixture. Mix well. Add buttermilk, flour, salt and vanilla. Add vinegar and baking soda with a spoon. Bake in greased and floured 8 or 9-inch pans at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.Frosting:4 Tbsp. flour1 c. milk1/2 c. butter1/2 c. shortening1 c. sugar2 tsp. vanilla3 Tbsp. powdered sugar Mix flour and milk. Cook until thick as paste. Cool. Mix butter, shortening and sugar. Mix for 4 minutes. Add the milk paste, vanilla and powdered sugar.
